Description

The NEMA17 6-wire stepper motor is a versatile motor designed for applications requiring precise positioning and controlled movement. Its 1.8° step angle provides 200 steps per revolution, making it suitable for 3D printers, CNC machines, robotics, camera platforms, and other automated systems.

The 6-wire configuration allows the motor to be used in either unipolar or bipolar configurations. For standard 4-wire bipolar drivers, the center-tap wires are left disconnected, allowing the motor to provide higher torque.

Key Specifications

  • Condition: Brand New
  • Frame Size: NEMA 17, 42×42mm
  • Body Length: 34mm
  • Step Angle: 1.8° (200 steps per revolution)
  • Rated Current: 1.2A per phase
  • Voltage Range: Typically driven at 12–24V DC using a constant-current driver
  • Holding Torque: Generally 30–35 Ncm (56–63 oz-in)
  • Shaft Diameter: 5mm, standard D-shaped shaft

Core Applications

  • 3D Printers: Suitable for X, Y, and Z-axis movement and direct-drive extruders.
  • CNC Routers & Laser Cutters: Provides precise positioning for small desktop engraving and cutting machines.
  • Automation & Robotics: Suitable for accurate speed and position control in DIY and automated systems.

Typical Wiring (4-Wire Bipolar Setup)

For use with a standard 4-wire bipolar stepper motor driver:

  • Phase A: Often Black (A+) and Green (A−)
  • Phase B: Often Red (B+) and Blue (B−)
  • Center Taps: Usually White and Yellow; disconnect and insulate these wires when using a 4-wire driver.

How to Connect to Standard 4-Pin Drivers (A4988, DRV8825, TMC2209)

To use this 6-wire motor with a standard 4-pin bipolar driver, leave the two center-tap wires disconnected and insulated.

  1. Identify the Pairs: Use a multimeter to measure resistance between the wires. The outer ends of each coil will show the highest resistance, while the center tap will show approximately half the resistance to either end.
  2. 4-Wire Bipolar Mode: Connect the two outer wires of one coil to Phase A and the two outer wires of the other coil to Phase B. This configuration provides the highest available torque from the motor.
