The HW-586 Battery Capacity Tester Module is a compact and practical tool for testing the discharge capacity of 18650 Li-ion batteries, lead-acid batteries, and other compatible rechargeable batteries. It measures the battery’s discharge performance and calculates the delivered capacity in Ah or mAh.
This module is based on the ZB2L3 battery capacity tester design and is suitable for electronics enthusiasts, battery pack builders, repair technicians, and DIY projects where checking the actual capacity of a battery is important.
The tester supports batteries with discharge voltages from 1.00V to 15.00V and can handle a maximum discharge current of 3A, depending on the connected load and operating conditions.

Test 18650 Battery Capacity
The actual capacity of a rechargeable battery can differ from its advertised rating, especially with older, used, or recycled cells. The HW-586 battery capacity tester allows you to perform a controlled discharge test and determine how much energy the battery can actually deliver.
This makes it particularly useful for testing and sorting 18650 battery cells before using them in DIY battery packs.
Discharge Capacity Measurement
During a test, the module controls the connected external load and measures the battery’s discharge voltage and current. It then calculates the accumulated discharge capacity and displays the result.
The capacity can be displayed in different ranges, with support for measurements up to 9999Ah according to the supplied specifications.
Important: External Load Required
The HW-586 is a capacity measurement controller, not a built-in electronic load by itself. An appropriate external load must be connected to the output for the battery discharge test.
The module can control the discharge process and measure the resulting voltage, current, and capacity.
Adjustable Termination Voltage
The tester can automatically determine an appropriate termination voltage based on the battery’s starting voltage. You can also manually set the termination voltage when required.
This feature allows you to configure the test according to the battery type and the desired discharge cutoff level.
How to Use the HW-586
- Fully charge the battery before starting the capacity test.
- Connect the battery positive terminal to the tester’s positive input and the negative terminal to the negative input.
- Do not reverse the battery polarity, as incorrect connection can damage the module.
- Connect a suitable external load to the tester’s output terminals.
- Connect a 4.5–6V DC power supply through the Micro USB input.
- Press the OK button to start the test.
- The module will determine a suitable termination voltage automatically, or you can manually adjust it using the + and − buttons.
- Allow the discharge test to complete and check the measured capacity.
