Output Specifications
The module provides two main output voltage options:
| Output | Rated Current | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| 3V | 1A | 1A |
| 5V | 2.2A | Up to 3A |
The 5V output should normally be used within its 2.2A rated current. Although the source specifies support for up to 3A, it also warns that overloading the module can damage it and reduce its service life.
Battery Compatibility
The board supports up to two Li-ion batteries and recommends using two 18650 cells. The source specifies a suitable cell length of approximately 65mm.
The batteries must be installed with the correct positive (+) and negative (-) orientation according to the markings on the PCB. Incorrect battery installation can damage the module.
Important Battery Configuration
The two batteries must not be connected in series. The module is designed to operate with the batteries within the specified Li-ion voltage range of approximately 3.2V to 4.2V.
Charging and LED Indicators
The board uses a Micro USB input for charging and supports input voltage up to approximately 6.5V according to the supplied specifications.
The four LED indicators provide battery/status information. The source also specifies:
- Green LED: battery/full status
- Red LED: charging status
- LED indicator may turn off after approximately 3 seconds while the module continues operating
- Battery voltage below approximately 3V triggers a protection/alarm condition
- Below approximately 2.4V, the module enters full shutdown protection
Suitable Applications
This 18650 Battery Shield can be used for:
- Raspberry Pi projects
- Arduino projects
- ESP32 development boards
- ESP8266 projects
- Portable electronics
- DIY power banks
- Rechargeable electronic projects
- IoT projects
- Robotics and embedded systems
- Battery-powered prototypes
- Portable sensors and controllers
Important Usage Instructions
Before using the module:
- Install the 18650 batteries according to the + and – markings on the PCB.
- Use compatible rechargeable Li-ion 18650 cells.
- Charge and activate the board before normal operation, as specified by the supplied product instructions.
- Keep the 5V load within the module’s recommended 2.2A rated output.
- Do not connect the batteries in series.
- The output current depends partly on the quality and capability of the installed 18650 batteries.
- To remove the batteries, first shut down the module using the button rather than directly pulling out the battery.
Important Note About Mobile Phones
The supplied product information specifically states that this module does not support charging mobile phones because it does not have the required docking/charging agreement. Therefore, it should not be marketed as a universal smartphone power-bank module.
