Description
The L293D Motor Driver Shield is a versatile Arduino-compatible motor control board designed for robotics and motion-control projects. Since motors generally require more current and power than an Arduino can provide directly, the shield uses dedicated driver circuitry to handle the motor power while receiving control signals from the Arduino.
The shield uses two L293D motor control chips to provide a total of four H-bridges. It can control up to four bidirectional DC motors, two 4-wire stepper motors, and two 5V hobby servo motors. DC motors and stepper motors are driven through the L293D chips, while the servo outputs use Arduino digital pins 9 and 10.
Features
- Controls up to 4 bidirectional DC motors with individual 8-bit speed selection.
- Supports up to 2 four-wire stepper motors.
- Provides 2 ports for 5V hobby servo motors.
- Motor operating voltage from 4.5V to 12V DC.
- Logic control voltage from 4.5V to 5.5V.
- Includes 2 × L293D motor control chips.
- Provides 4 H-bridges for motor control.
- Uses 8-stage serial shift registers to reduce the number of Arduino control pins required.
- Pull-down resistors keep the motors disabled during power-up.
- External motor power can be connected through a screw-terminal block.
- Screw terminals provide convenient motor connections.
