Description

Nylon (PA) Hydrophobic 1.75mm 3D Printer Filament is a strong and durable material that offers greater toughness and flexibility than many conventional PLA and ABS filaments. Nylon belongs to the family of polyamides and is widely used for functional 3D printed parts that require strength and durability.

Unlike standard Nylon, which is highly sensitive to moisture, this hydrophobic Nylon filament is designed to slow moisture absorption and reduce the impact of humidity on printing performance. It can provide improved dimensional stability and very little warping when printed under suitable conditions.

Nylon naturally absorbs moisture from the surrounding environment. Excess moisture can affect the polymer during extrusion, potentially reducing melt strength and changing viscosity. Popping or crackling sounds during extrusion can be an indication that the filament has absorbed too much moisture.

The filament is supplied in vacuum-sealed packaging to help minimize moisture absorption during shipping and storage. For best printing results, Nylon should still be kept dry and properly dried before use.

Available in Black and White and in 500g or 1kg spool sizes, this filament is suitable for compatible FDM 3D printers that can reach the required printing temperature and use a heated bed.

Technical Specification

  • Recommended Nozzle Temperature: 265–290°C
  • Recommended Bed Temperature: 50°C
  • Adheres to a variety of build surfaces, including glass, Garolite, and PEI.
  • Nylon is moisture sensitive; appropriate measures should be taken to keep the filament dry.
  • Recommended Drying Temperature: 120°C
  • Slower printing speeds, larger nozzles, and thicker layers are generally recommended as starting points.

Tips When Printing With Nylon Filament

Nylon can adhere to blue painter’s tape and various other build surfaces. Poplar wood, cardboard, and hardboard have also been used as alternative build surfaces because Nylon can adhere well to cellulose-based materials.

Nylon also adheres well to machinable Garolite, while a glue stick or diluted PVA glue can be used on a glass bed to improve adhesion. Suitable bed preparation may vary depending on the printer, build surface, and printed part.

Nylon filament absorbs moisture when exposed to open air. For best results, dry the filament before printing and store it in a dry, moisture-controlled environment when not in use.

  • Print Speed: 18mm/s for the first layer, then 28–34mm/s.
  • A heated bed of up to 110°C may help reduce Nylon warping, depending on the printer and material setup.
  • Cooling Fan: No cooling fan is recommended.
  • Use the filament in a well-ventilated area or closed ventilated system.
  • Store the filament dry when not in use to minimize moisture absorption.
