Description
The TTP229 16-Key 4×4 Digital Capacitive Touch Keypad provides a modern solid-state alternative to traditional mechanical keypads. It uses capacitive touch sensing to detect finger contact, eliminating the need for mechanical buttons and moving parts.
With support for up to 16 independent touch keys, the keypad can be used for a wide range of user-interface and control applications. The solid-state design offers excellent durability and is particularly useful in environments where dust and frequent button operation may cause problems for conventional mechanical switches.
The keypad can be configured to operate in different key modes depending on your project requirements. By default, it operates in 8-key mode, with the first eight key states available through the header outputs. It can also be configured for 16-key mode, allowing all 16 touch keys to be read through its 2-wire serial interface.
To enable 16-key operation, TP2 pads must be linked together as specified by the module configuration. This makes the keypad flexible enough for both simple 8-key projects and applications requiring all 16 touch inputs.
The module is well suited for Arduino, microcontroller projects, DIY electronics, touch control panels, embedded systems, and custom user interfaces.

Operating Modes
8-Key Mode
The keypad operates in 8-key mode by default. In this configuration, the first eight touch keys can be accessed through the corresponding header outputs.
16-Key Mode
For applications requiring all 16 touch keys, the module can be configured for 16-key mode. To enable this mode, connect or bridge the TP2 pads on the module. All 16 key states can then be read through the 2-wire serial interface.
